BT-The Most Important Thing

Opening Question: If you were alone on a deserted island, what ONE THING would you want to have

with you?

– Going to look at God’s most important things (All scriptures start off with “Above all…”):

1. Proverbs 4:23

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.

Q: What is the most important thing here? Why?

Q: What are some things that we guard in our lives?

Q: Why do we guard those things?

Q: What do you think we’re supposed to guard our hearts from?

2. James 5:12

Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.

Q: What is the most important thing here? Why?

Q: What sort of commitments do people make nowadays?

Q: Why is it so important that we follow through on these commitments?

3. I Peter 4:8

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Q: What is the most important thing here? Why?

Q: What do you think he means, “Cover over a multitude of sins?”

Q: Have you ever been to a church where there wasn’t a “deep” love?

Q: How did it make you feel?

Q: How can we love people deeply?

4. II Peter 1:20-21

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Q: What is the most important thing here? Why?

Q: How can we know that the Bible is from God?

Q: If the Bible is from God, how many interpretations of the Bible should there be? (One)

Q: Why are there so many different interpretations?

Challenge: Are these your most important things? Study the Bible to make these things a priority!
