BT-Passing The Test

Opening Q:

What’s the hardest test (school, work, military, karate…) you ever had to take ?

Genesis 22 (vs1-5)

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

Q: Why might God want to test us?

Q: How would you feel if God was personally testing you?

Q: What kind of things might be going through Abrahams mind at this moment?

Q: Do you think what God is asking is too much?

Q: Where do you think people might “draw the line” with God?

(vs 6-8)

Q: What do you think of Abraham’s response to his son’s question?

Q: What type of relationship do you think Isaac and Abraham had?

Q: What type of relationship do you think Abraham and God had?

Q: When is it the hardest to trust God?

(vs 9-10)

Q:What do you think is going through Isaacs mind at this point?

Q:Does he say anything?

Q: What is it called when we do as we’re told?

Q: Where do you think Isaac learned this type of obedience from?

Q: In what ways do you think trusting and obeying are related?

Q: Why do we have a hard time obeying God?

(vs 11-14)

Q: Why was He testing him?

Q: Why do you think of all things He tested him in this way?

Q: Was not obeying God ever an option for Abraham?

Challenge: We’re challenged on a daily basis to choose what God would want verse what we would want. What He wants isn’t always the easiest but He always provides. If you ’re having a hard time trusting God or you don’t know in what ways He wants us to obey, get with someone and study the Bible so that we all can Pass The Test!
